The Omushkego Ishkotayo Project
Operating Canada’s premier sovereign energy asset. FNEI owns and manages the 270-kilometre-long Western James Bay Transmission Line. This massive, multi-million-dollar grid successfully eradicated the reliance on diesel generation for remote coastal communities, replacing it with reliable, clean hydroelectric transmission.
High-Voltage Substation Operations
FNEI designed, constructed, and actively operates three massive 115/8.32 kV power substations. They manage the complex step-down voltage delivery, ensuring that provincial bulk electricity is safely converted and transferred to localized First Nation distribution networks.
Remote Mining Energy Supply
Supplying the industrial backbone of the North. FNEI’s sovereign transmission infrastructure directly powers major resource extraction mega-projects in the James Bay region, including the massive power demands required by the De Beers Victor Diamond Mine connection.
Specialized Transmission Maintenance
Executing uncompromising utility upkeep in extreme Sub-Arctic environments. FNEI deploys elite, in-house high-voltage electricians and linemen to ensure that their 270 km grid and heavy infrastructure survive severe northern winters without failure.

Sovereign Ownership & Historic Unity
A Historic 5-Nation Coalition
Five Nations Energy Inc. is a masterpiece of regional economic unity. Operating as a non-profit, non-share capital corporation, FNEI is 100% owned and governed by a coalition of five distinct First Nations: Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, Moose Cree, and Taykwa Tagamou.
Tier-1 Utility Asset Ownership
FNEI operates at the highest regulatory tier of the provincial energy sector. As a fully licensed electricity transmitter under the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), they sit alongside major provincial utilities as infrastructure owners. By managing and maintaining the physical transmission grid rather than acting as a traditional services subcontractor, FNEI provides industrial clients and resource developers with direct access to an established, fully regulated utility asset.
